Weight Watchers are asking members to choose a goal weight that results in a body mass index which is mainly accepted as healthy such as 18 to 24.9.  In order to join Weight Watchers in the United States, one must weigh at least 5 lbs or 2.3 kg more than the minimum weight for the person’s height.

A Lifetime member can attend meetings free of charge as long as he weighs in at least once per calendar month otherwise he will be charged the weekly fee until he or she again have a weight within the target range.

The Weight Watchers Online is a more independent technique for those who do not want to attend meetings. The Online version of the program offers access to a Web-based service. The support system for Weight Watchers Online is a message board where members can post support and share advice. The message board is available free of charge to the public, Weight Watchers disallow the posting of its proprietary Points calculations on the board.  In other areas, however, Weight Watchers meetings are managed by a locally franchised organization rather than by Weight Watchers International.
